Summary

Becoming Naomi Leon is a story filled with drama that Naomi has to go through. Seven years ago Naomi and Owen’s mother, Skyla dropped them off at their great-grandmothers trailer house. Skyla was a mess and an alocholic. After she had divorced their father, Santiago, she felt she could no longer take care of them, but she told Santiago he could not either. Gram was happy to care for Naomi and Owen, especially since Skyla was in such bad shape.
Everyday Naomi would fantasize about her mother and what she would be like when they would actually meet. She had three “possible moms” for what she imagined Skyla to be like. Her first thought was a mom who always came and helped out at school, and was he president of the Parent/Teacher group. Her second thought was a business mom, with nice suits, and had an important job in a big business. Naomi’s last thought was her mom working at a plant nursery, and walking her and Owen to and from school each day. The day that Skyla, her mother, finally came back to her, she was absolutely nothing like she had imagined.
When Naomi first met her mother she was all right with the fact that she was nothing like she had wished. She would do her hair for her, and buy her new clothes, and make her look ‘pretty’ for the fifth grade. At dinner one day, Skyla tells everyone how she wants to bring Naomi to Las Vegas to live with her boyfriend. Things only get more heated when Gram tells Skyla that Naomi will not be going with her to Vegas. Gram wants to prove to everyone that Skyla is a bad person so she takes everyone in the trailer to Oxaca, Mexico where they would stand in front of a judge and settle this conflict. Will the judge let Naomi stay with caring great-grandma and brother or go with her mother to Las Vegas?
